  • Former advisor on Arab-Israeli issues to former Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres; also advised Defense Minister Ezer Weizman and the Knesset Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense
  • Director of the Harry S. Truman Institute of Peace at Hebrew University (1975-1978; 1992-1998); former Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern studies
  • Visiting scholar at a number of institutions, including the Middle East Institute, US Institute of Peace, Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars, Brookings Institution, Washington Institute for Near East Policy and Harvard University
  • Holds the rank of Colonel in the Israeli Army
