An internationally recognised authority on energy, investment, finance and geopolitics over the past 30 years, Mehmet Öğütçü has built a significant knowledge, track-record and experience on policy matters related to energy, finance and investment, with a particular geographic focus on Europe, Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and China for most of his career as a diplomat, IEA and OECD executive and businessman/investor. Mehmet provides strategic advice to large international groups on long-term business strategy formulation and execution, access to and stakeholder engagement in emerging market economies, M&A and private equity investments, fund-raising for projects and as well as risk mitigation. Following his diplomatic assignments in Ankara, Beijing, Brussels and Paris, Mehmet served for 12 years as a senior staffer at the International Energy Agency and OECD in Paris, managing energy security and international investment programme. Until recently, Mehmet was director for BG Group’s international government affairs in London. Currently he chairs Global Resources Partnership, UK, is board director of Genel Energy, and sits on the board of Yasar Holding Group (Pinarsu, Vikings and DYO),Chairman of the Advisory Board of Invensys plc and serves as adviser to BG Group, KCS, and Windsor Energy Group. Mehmet was asked to serve as “special envoy” for the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels for the MENA region. He has recently set up the Bosphorus Energy Club, which is an exclusive and privileged platform bringing together the world’s energy elites in business, finance and government. He writes and lectures extensively around the world on energy, investment and geopolitical matters. Mehmet speaks Turkish, English, French and Chinese, and understands several Central Asian dialects.
