This essay seeks to explain the reasons behind the insecurity nature of the EU’s migration policy responses toward the Southern Mediterranean region from a critical sociology approach by examining the EU’s institutional setting behind the Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM).
With the onset of globalization, many in the MENA region have taken it upon themselves to immigrate to wealthier nations in an attempt to attain better education or send remittances. Oftentimes those who seek to do so become the vanguard for change in their home countries.
