Middle East Institute is honored to host Izzat Majeed, to discuss “Which Direction Islam? Is a Civilization Clash Inevitable?”
Mr. Majeed is Chief Executive of Alph Limited, a London based investment company initiating banking projects in the emerging markets and setting up of chemical, oil, and gas projects in developing countries. Member, board of directors of Global Finance Media Inc. which publishes the financial magazine Global Finance in New York. He has taught economics at the University of Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan. Frequent guest lecturer at various universities in the UK and USA.
Recent speaking engagements include at the Asia House, London, where he spoke on the need for reformation in Islam, at the British Parliament, House of Lords, where he spoke to clarify misunderstandings between Islam and the West, and at a public meeting at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress where he clarified key misconceptions in the West about Islamic law, the Shar'ia.
Mr. Majeed holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Punjab, Lahore and a Masters Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.
He has published three books of poems and several articles on economics, politics and history.
Izzat Majeed is best known for his insights on both the need for reformation within Islam and the reason Islam and the West need not 'clash'. His informative discussion puts Islamic extremism in a wider historic context. Several of his articles have intellectually confronted extremism that turns to violence. One of his pieces, "Open letter to Osama Bin Laden" became a subject of great discussion in the New York Times.
