
The Middle East Institute will host four distinguished experts on Somalia to discuss the many dimensions of the troubling crisis in Somalia and its implications for the region as well as US counterterrorism efforts.
Panelists include George Washington University Professor David Shinn, a former US Ambassador to Ethiopia and Coordinator for Somalia in 1992-1993; retired foreign service officer Elizabeth Spiro Clark, associate with the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University and author of a recent article on Somaliland; Gayle Smith, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, previously a Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council from 1998-2001; and Johns Hopkins SAIS Professor William Zartman, a Middle East and Africa conflict resolution expert.
