
The Hon. Dr. Akbar Ahmed, Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies and professor of International Relations at the American University in Washington, DC, will discuss the molding of a particular Islamic culture in Pakistan through history. Bringing to light the strong Sufi influence still prevalent in the country today, Dr. Ahmed will discuss Pakistan’s subscription to a more confrontational brand of the religion, international perception of Pakistan, and the future of US-Pakistan relations. Dr. Ahmed is a distinguished anthropologist, writer, filmmaker, and former Pakistani ambassador to the United Kingdom. He has been actively involved in interfaith dialogue and the study of global Islam and its impact on contemporary society.
