Pakistan’s Politics and Its American Partnership

The Middle East Institute is pleased to host Ambassador William Milam and Ambassador Dennis Kux, two distinguished experts on South Asia, to examine both recent domestic developments in Pakistan and the relationship between the US and this strategically important nation.

Currently a Senior Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Ambassador Milam will draw on experience gained during a long career with the Foreign Service that included posts throughout West Africa and South Asia. He served as Ambassador to Bangladesh from 1990-1993, and as Ambassador to Pakistan from 1998-2001.

A former Foreign Service South Asia Specialist and expert on India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, Ambassador Kux served as US Ambassador to the Ivory Coast from 1986-1989. The author of The United States and Pakistan, 1947-2000, Disenchanted Allies, he is also currently a Senior Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
