MEI Event
Lords of the Land: The War for Israel's Settlements in the Occupied Territories, 1967-2007

Featuring:

Akiva Eldar
Oct 1 2007 - 12:00pm - 2:00pm

Akiva Eldar, chief political columnist for Ha'aretz, will speak on his book, co-authored with historian Idith Zertal. Lords of the Land examines the tragic history of Israeli settlement and accompanying military occupation in the lands conquered in 1967 and their profoundly harmful effects on Israeli and Palestinian society. The authors show how settlements, occupation and settlers' messianic religion have transformed Israel and shaken the foundations of its society.

Akiva Eldar, a graduate of Hebrew University, joined Ha'aretz in 1978. He was the last Israeli journalist to interview Yassir Arafat before his death, and the first to interview Mahmoud Abbas after his ascension as Prime Minster. In May 2006 The Financial Times named him as one of the most influential political commentators in the world.

Paperback copies of Lords of the Land will be available following the presentation. RSVP is required for this event. RSVP to Foundation for Middle East Peace, info@fmep.org.
