Kazakhstan: Post-Soviet Cultural Response

Mr. E. Wayne Merry will discuss the transitional nature of the culture in the oil-rich country of Kazakhstan. Examining the country through a cultural lens, he will address Kazakhstan as a post-Soviet democracy and will look for residual characteristics of the USSR. Mr. Merry, a former State Department and Pentagon official and now a Senior Associate at the American Foreign Policy Council, will also explain what the heritage of Kazakhstan suggests for its future development. Mr. Merry will combine his first-hand experience traveling for 20 years in the region with his knowledge as a film enthusiast.
