The Middle East Institute, in partnership with Busboys and Poets, is pleased to sponsor a screening of the documentary Inside Mecca, produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Anisa Mehdi. A Q&A session with Ms. Mehdi will be held following the screening.
With unprecedented access to Islam's holiest city, the film follows three Muslims from very different backgrounds - an executive from Malaysia, a radio evangelist from South Africa, and a blond-haired, blue-eyed professor from Texas - as they take part in an epic five-day quest for salvation. Woven through the personal stories of these pilgrims, Inside Mecca examines the holy city itself and its historic importance to Muslim and non-Muslim populations alike.
Currently an adjunct Professor of Communications at Seton Hall University, Ms. Mehdi is also founder and president of Whetstone Productions, a New Jersey-based production and consulting company. For over 20 years she has reported, written, directed and produced television news and documentary programs for major American media outlets, including National Geographic, PBS, ABC News, and CBS.
