Events such as the assassination of Rafiq Hariri, the formation of a united Syrian-Iranian front, and the recent withdrawal of Syria’s troops from Lebanon have brought Syria’s role in the Middle East to the forefront of Washington’s foreign policy discussions. MEI is pleased to welcome renowned Syria expert and former CIA analyst Flynt Leverett to provide insights into Syria’s recent history based on his new book Inheriting Syria: Bashar’s Trial by Fire. Leverett will discuss his research, outline recommendations for America’s “conditional engagement” with the Asad regime, and respond to audience questions.
