Ali Ansari and Najmeh Bozorgmehr
Jul 19 2006 - 6:30pm - 8:00pm

This event is full, and only those on the RSVP list will be admitted. General admission for non-members is $5, and members of MEI, the World Affairs Council, and the press are free.

The Middle East Institute and the World Affairs Council are holding a wine and cheese reception honoring Ali Ansari on the publication of his new book, Confronting Iran: The Failure of American Foreign Policy and the Next Great Conflict in the Middle East. Confronting Iran offers a new interpretation of US-Iran relations, a history of failed diplomacy, missed opportunities and bureaucratic wrangling. With the standoff over Iran's nuclear program grabbing headlines every day, Ali Ansari and Najmeh Bozorgmehr will assess the current nuclear negotiations and discuss how policy makers can engage the democratic movement in Iran and manage the reintegration of an emergent Iran into the global order. A question and answer session will follow.

Ali M. Ansari is fluent in Persian and holds a doctorate from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. He has written numerous books and articles on the history and politics of Iran and the Middle East and has appeared on national network and cable news programs.

Najmeh Bozorgmehr is an experienced Iranian journalist and a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Ms. Bozorgmehr is a correspondent for the London-based Financial Times in Tehran. As a Visiting Fellow, Ms. Bozorgmehr is examining US policy towards Iran and its evolution into the current crisis over the nuclear issue.

Copies of Confronting Iran will be available for sale and signature following the event.
