Lois Critchfield joins the Board as a former US government official whose career included 27 years at the Central Intelligence Agency. She lived in the Middle East for many years. She worked in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey and has traveled extensively in the Gulf region. She has just completed a book on the Sultanate of Oman, which covers the period of the 1970s and 1980s when her late husband James served as an economic development advisor to Sultan Qaboos.
Ms. Critchfield currently resides in Williamsburg, VA. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Reves Center for International Studies at The College of William and Mary where she works in support of the College’s Middle East studies programs, which include sending students abroad for Arabic language training. In 2005, she received the Lord Botetourt Award given annually to a non-alumnus who has contributed to the College’s advancement. In 2006, she was made an honorary alumna. She also serves on the Board of the Hadetha Foundation, a non-profit organization working toward the economic empowerment of women in Iraq.
