Joseph L. Brand is a partner of the Washington law firm Patton Boggs PLC where, among other accounts, he supervises the firm's considerable business in the Middle East. Patton Boggs won an international competition to be one of two law firms to be allowed to set up an office in Qatar. As an adjunct law professor at George Washington University, Mr. Brand taught the core curriculum subject of international comparative law for more than ten years.
Mr. Brand consults for a number of international and governmental institutions, including the United Nations and the World Bank. He was appointed by the US Department of State to resolve a foreign expropriation dispute and report his findings to the Congress. On behalf of such institutions as the United Nations, the Peace Corps, and Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance, he recently conducted negotiation seminars in Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and Uganda. Mr. Brand received degrees from the University of Michigan and Ohio State and his law degree from George Washington University.
